A very special little angel earned his wings last night.
Jacob Grecco of Phillipsburg, New Jersey lost his battle with brain cancer.
As his mother held him in her arms, Jacob Grecco said goodbye.?
It wasn't meant to happen that way.? He had flown to Germany two weeks ago with the hope that an experimental treatment would save his life.
But it didn't work.
Doctors told his mother he was losing his battle with brain cancer.
That he could go.. at any time.
That was Saturday.
On Monday we spoke with Jacob's father.
"He's in a coma, medically-induced by morphine, trying to keep him going for a little while till we can figure out a way to get him home," said Michael Grecco.
His family wanted to bring Jacob home so he could be with his loved ones one last time.
A medical flight would cost tens of thousands of dollars.? So on Facebook, the family posted an urgent plea for donations.
It had worked before when the community rallied to raise the money to send Jacob to Germany.
"It was $20,000 that was raised in a week and a half to send him there," said Grecco.
And it worked again.
By Tuesday a message was posted on Facebook saying arrangements had been made and that Jacob and his mom would be heading home.
But Jacob didn't make the flight.
"Jacob Austin Grecco entered into God's Kingdom at 9:26 p.m," Grecco posted on Facebook.
The little boy loved superheroes.? He even had this website.? He just wanted to help people.
And in a way, one person commented on Facebook, he did.
Michelle wrote, "His story brought out the goodness out of so many."? "Maybe that was the purpose of his life, to bring so many together."
Hours after his death his mother began her trip home.? She posted this on the a support page on Facebook, ""Hi everyone... As I write to you, I am on the way to the airport in Frankfurt, about to leave a huge piece of my heart here in Germany, until he is able to be returned home.? For me it was 3:26 am on August 1, while wrapped in my arms, that Jacob took his last precious breath. He fought so hard, for so long. I don't know why, but it must have been meant to be this way. I am so sorry to all of his family who did not have a chance to hug him at their goodbye.? Please know that he now has his arms and wings around all of us. He is walking, running, talking and playing with all of his new friends and family who got there before him. Please watch for him everywhere, I know he will be there. I love you, Jacob... With all of my broken heart. </3"
Jacob's stepdad, Gary Gravina posted this:
"Maybe Heaven was running low on Blue and needed the light of his eyes?
One day last Fall, when Stacey and I were driving him down to Radiation, Jake was laying down in the back of the van, and he asked Stacey, "If you die, can God make you alive again?"
I said, "God can do ANYTHING, Buddy."
He said, "I wish I could die, so I could be borned-ed again as a baby who doesn't get sick..."
